Teaching Opportunities
The Arts Council of Lincoln County hosts a number of different exhibitions, competitions and events throughout the year in the Cochrane and Carolina Mills Galleries, located inside the Lincoln Cultural Center at 403 East Main Street in Lincolnton, NC. We showcase the area's amateur, emerging and established artists who work in mediums ranging from clay, wood, fiber, metal and glass to mixed media, oil, watercolor and acrylic painting.
The Arts Council of Lincoln County is the sponsor of the Annual Summer Art Camp for children ages 8 through 16. These Art Camps are held in Lincolnton, Denver and West Lincoln the first full week in June after school is out. The Arts Council of Lincoln County offers both half and full day art and/or craft classes throughout the year. We are always interested in finding new and exciting instructors to teach them.

Light & Air, The Photography of Bayard Wooten




Bayard Wootten was North Carolina’s most important photographers of the first half of the 20th Century.




This exhibit showcases her work taken in the 1930's. Work is displayed at the Lincoln Cultural Center in




Lincolnton. Sponsored by the Lincoln County Historical Association and Lincoln County Museum of History.
August-September Catawba Valley Pottery Exhibition




August 31-September 24, 2010




Reception: Friday September 3, 2010 ~ 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.




This exhibition features a mixture of contemporary and traditional pottery from locally established




potters, along with emerging potters. Work will be displayed at the Lincoln Cultural Center in

October-November 2010 Paul C. Rhyne Art Competition




October 5-November 5, 2010

Open to all area artists, this competition showcases a mixture of original works of art from all




mediums. This is an annual regional exhibition, which was renamed in 2007 in honor and memory of




Paul C. Rhyne, a life long resident of Lincolnton and supporter of the Arts Council. Work will be




displayed at the Lincoln Cultural Center in Lincolnton. Sponsored by the Arts ouncil of Lincoln County and




in part by a grant provided by the Grassroots Art Program of the North Carolina Arts Council. For

November-December “Realism to the Abstract: The Art of Two Sisters” Art Exhibition




November 16 through December 31, 2010

This exhibition features the work of two sisters, Anne Michael and Elizabeth Michael. The exhibition of




paintings, prints, photography, and sculpture includes subject matter ranging from the traditional to the




avant garde, such as the 7-foot paper mache woman with three heads, three arms and six legs entitled,




"A Woman with Issues". Work will be displayed at the Lincoln Cultural Center, Lincolnton, North Carolina.

2011 Amateur Photography Competition




This competition is open to all amateur photographers with cash awards given in each category plus




a Best of Show award. Sponsored by the Arts Council of Lincoln County.

2011 Senior Showcase




The Arts Council of Lincoln County and Lincoln County Senior Services will showcase local senior clay




art. Sponsored by the Arts Council of Lincoln County.

27th Annual Flo Robinson Literary Competition & Awards




The Flo Robinson Literary Competition provides cash awards for poetry and prose writers who are past




or present Lincoln County residents. Sponsored by the Arts Council of Lincoln County and in part by a




grant provided by the Grassroots Art Program of the North Carolina Arts Council.

Lincoln County School’s Art Competition & Awards




All Lincoln County students are eligible to participate in this annual competition. Sponsored




by the Arts Council of Lincoln County and Lincoln County Schools.




The Arts Council of Lincoln County holds an annual summer Art Camp for children ages 6 through 12. It is




held in three Lincoln County locations including East, Central and West Lincoln and gives children an




opportunity to explore different artistic mediums.




As an additional benefit to the community, scholarships are available though the Paul C. Rhyne




Scholarship Fund. Established in 2007 in the memory of Paul C. Rhyne, a founding member of the Arts




Council of Lincoln County, this fund provides an annual art class and art camp scholarship to a deserving




Lincoln County child. Please consider a donation today to the Paul C. Rhyne Scholarship Fund. Your




generous donation will help those children who otherwise may not be exposed to the arts. Email or call




our office for more information about donating to this special scholarship.
